V.E.N.O.M.

I’m not a rocker by any means but this is amazing. The first great single of 2012.

X up

This is probably old news, but then again I’m late to a lot these days. This is one X up I never thought I’d see. I never liked Alien Workshop back in the day but as would be expected with PS this is this rather lovely and tasteful. The best feature has to be the maple laminates in the PS classic stripes. Sorry, all 200 have already gone.

Friday 45

I went in my vinyl cupboard today to pull this one out to play to the kids

Bruce Springsteen – Santa Claus is coming to town

And then I spotted this 45 cracker. I honestly believe my copy is the most fucked on the planet

Prince Buster – Al Capone

Friday 45

Another blast from the past this week. Spiritualized on top form in the rousing chorus/gospelesque department.

Spiritualized – Soul on fire

Friday 45

Not their best effort by any means but there’s still lots to love. There’s a nice groove buried in there although at times it sounds like the band are playing different songs.

Happy Mondays – Tart Tart

Scale it back

It’s one of those where you think “I’ve heard this before”. It reminds me of TLC or Prince or something. A great one to kick back to.

Friday 45 (possibly)

I’m not sure if this is coming out as a single but I don’t care, it should be. A great track with more than a slight nod to his dad and Blur/Albarn.

Baxter Dury – Isabel

Tog

I heard Stuart Maconie raving about this one on 6music the other day. He’s right, it’s a cracker

Friday 45 (on a Saturday)

A little overdue as work gets in the way of important things like blogging about records.      I loved this one when I was a kid.

Ba Da Bing

I took delivery of the new Talk Talk and Mark Hollis re-presses on Ba Da Bing this week. It’s the first affordable time on vinyl for Laughing Stock (unless you have a grand spare for an original copy) and the first ever time on vinyl for Mark Hollis.

To be honest I still think Laughing Stock is quite hard work and find the Hollis solo superior. Wouldn’t mind finding an original Laughing Stock in a charity shop though..

Talk Talk – Ascension Day
