Dexys

Currently receiving heavy rotation is the preview track from the up and coming Dexys album ‘One day I’m going to soar’. This is a band I simply cannot fail to see this year.

See the album preview vid below for more superb images of one of my heroes.

That Dangerous Age

Filtered vocals and processed beats… It could only be the new single by Paul Weller. Still showing the kids how it should be done aged 53.

There’s no life like the slow life

We had our first proper snow of winter last night and that gives me the perfect excuse to post this perfect song. This is what played in my head as I made a snowman with my son.

The Walkmen – While I shovel the snow

Well they say, “Can’t please everyone”
But I’m stuck on a winning streak
Well today, there’s clarity
And tonight, I see tomorrow
All at once, the winter’s here
All the lochs are frozen over
As I look in back of me
See a shape beside the walkway

Half of my life, I’ve been watching
Half of my life, I’ve been waking up
Birds in the sky could warn me
There’s no life like the slow life

So for now, I’ll take my time
For now, I can’t be bothered
But I learned a lot of things
And I fudged a lot of numbers

Once again, the winter’s here
All the lochs are frozen over
So I look in back of me
See a shape beside the walkway

Half of my life, I’ve been watching
Half of my life, I’ve been waking up
Birds in the sky could warn me
There’s no life like the slow life

GIANT

I’m not one for seeking out remixes but as Matt had re-recorded the vox for this one I thought I’d check it. To be honest, I quite like it…. though it has lost some of the eariness of the original.

British Sea Power

Other than admiring the brilliant band name I had never really noticed BSP. That changed when Santa brought me this book on Dec 25.

It’s great read to read about a band doing things differently.

V.E.N.O.M.

I’m not a rocker by any means but this is amazing. The first great single of 2012.

X up

This is probably old news, but then again I’m late to a lot these days. This is one X up I never thought I’d see. I never liked Alien Workshop back in the day but as would be expected with PS this is this rather lovely and tasteful. The best feature has to be the maple laminates in the PS classic stripes. Sorry, all 200 have already gone.

Friday 45

I went in my vinyl cupboard today to pull this one out to play to the kids

Bruce Springsteen – Santa Claus is coming to town

And then I spotted this 45 cracker. I honestly believe my copy is the most fucked on the planet

Prince Buster – Al Capone

Friday 45

Another blast from the past this week. Spiritualized on top form in the rousing chorus/gospelesque department.
